Good-To-Go Backpacks

Nationally, more than twenty-two million children receive free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program and the National School Breakfast Program. For many of these children, school meals may be the only meals they eat. To address this child hunger issue, The Foodbank implemented the Good-To-Go Backpack program in 2004, serving schools in Montgomery and Greene counties.

The Good-To-Go-Backpack Program serves more than 1,300 school-age children who have been identified by school staff as being at risk for going hungry over the weekend. This program provides packs filled with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food that is child-friendly, non-perishable, and easily consumed. The packs are discreetly distributed to students on the last day before the weekend.

Schools interested in becoming part of the Good-to-Go Backpack program should contact Andy Macy, Programs Manager, at amacy@thefoodbank.org or 937-461-0265 x24
